Over the past two years the group has produced a `School Pack` on Mining Heritage to assist Teachers and Pupils at Schools through out County Durham and this is still available as a free download from this website. Group Members also completed a number of Visits to local Schools with Artefact handling sessions, Art projects, and talks by former Miners who worked in the Durham Coalfield. We are Currently compiling our second part of the School project which shall contain information about the Homelife of the Miner and his family and social aspects like going to the Miners Gala, Club Trips, etc. which we hope to have available around September of this year for local Schools. In the mean time we are to stage four mini exhibitions at venues around the County to promote the School Project work, details shall be given in due course on this website. This year we staged a Miners Lamp exhibition, an exhibition of Mat and Rug making with thanks to the Clayport Matters Group who provided a variety of exhibits that really were works of art! and we commemorated the Stanley Pit Disaster which happened 100 years ago in February of this year, with the largest loss of life at a Durham Colliery in 1909. So for the moment we have no base to operate from, but the group is still very active and we hope to see some of you at this years mini exhibitions once venues are established and in due course at our new premises! Remember! To make sure to attend this years 'Durham Miners Gala'in July, which celebrates its 125th Anniversary year and 2009 sees the '25th Anniversary of the Miners Strike' the Gala will be a social highpoint not to be missed! by all who care about our 'Proud Mining Heritage in County Durham' Best Wishes and Kind Regards to you all!
